1. Fresh water, changed often
Fill the vase with clean, room-temperature water and change it every two days. Fresh water keeps stems hydrated and slows bacteria that shortens a flower's life.
2. Trim the stems at an angle
Every couple of days, trim 1–2 cm off each stem at a 45° angle with sharp scissors. This opens the stem to drink more water and prevents it sealing against the vase base.
3. Remove leaves below the waterline
Any foliage sitting in the water will rot quickly. Strip the lower leaves so only clean stems sit below the waterline.
4. Keep them cool and out of direct sun
In the UAE, heat is a flower's biggest enemy. Place your arrangement away from direct sunlight, air-conditioning vents and heat sources. A cool spot indoors keeps blooms fresher for longer.
5. Handle roses with care
If a rose looks a little tired, re-cut the stem and give it a deep drink of fresh water, many will revive within hours. Gently remove any wilting outer petals to keep the bloom looking its best.
